Anon ยท Last updated October 29, 2026

Anon is a private, invite-only messenger, run by Ryan Ostrom. This page explains what we keep, and what we never see.

Your messages, photos, videos and audio are end-to-end encrypted. They are encrypted on your iPhone and can only be decrypted on the phones of the people in the conversation. We only ever store and relay them encrypted, and we can't read them.

What we keep

What stays on your iPhone

Your encryption key is kept in the iPhone Keychain and never leaves the phone. Recent messages are cached on the phone, encrypted, so the app opens quickly. Signing out deletes them.

Who else is involved

Only Apple, to deliver notifications. A notification says only "New message" or "New contact request". It never contains message content. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone else.

How long it's kept

Children

Anon isn't intended for children under 13.
